The official matchday programme for the Reds’ UEFA Champions League clash with Villarreal CF features another striking cover.
As part of LFC’s collaboration with local artists to produce bespoke, highly-collectible, matchday programme covers for UEFA Champions League home games, the latest edition again features a unique piece of artwork created specifically for the individual fixtures to celebrate both our amazing football club and our city’s rich creative culture.
It has been produced by illustrator, designer and director Yoni Weisberg.
The lifelong Red explains: “Some of my favourite memories are from walking the streets around Anfield before a game, taking in the artwork, the atmosphere and the anticipation as kick-off gets closer. That’s the feeling I wanted to capture with this piece.”
Inside the packed programme, we hear from Hungarian duo Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez as they reflect on working under a new management team and reveal some of the biggest influences on their careers to date.
Elsewhere, we have the pre-match insights of head coach Andoni Iraola and captain Virgil van Dijk in their regular columns, while ex-Liverpool centre-back Gary Gillespie previews the game and highlights the contributions of youngsters Lewis Koumas and Trey Nyoni in last Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League victory at LASK.
There is an in-depth look at our visitors from eastern Spain while we continue our series looking at the Reds’ first European Cup triumph in 1976/77 as we head towards the 50th anniversary of that groundbreaking success.
We hear from Reds legend and UEFA Champions League-winning captain Steven Gerrard as he reflects on topping this summer’s poll to find ‘Liverpool’s Greatest’, a countdown which is now the subject of a new official book.
There is a pictorial focus on Ryan Gravenberch’s career path to date, some teasers for younger supporters with a focus on our captain and an update on the Reds’ Under-19s progress in the UEFA Youth League.
Meanwhile, The Cheap Thrills reflect on the journey leading up to their debut album ‘Keep Cheap’ and many lifelong memories with their beloved Liverpool FC.
You can read all about a special memento from Liverpool’s first Anfield meeting with Villarreal back in 2016 and look back at the programmes produced for that year’s UEFA Europa League semi-finals against the ‘Yellow Submarine’ while the latest in our popular Where Once We Watched series takes us back to clashes with FC Sion in 1996/97.
Forty years on we tell the story of the Screen Sport Super Cup, while we also feature six great LFC European comebacks and highlight the venues for UEFA finals until the end of the decade.
With all this and much more, make sure you pick up your copy at the match, from club stores or via the Reds’ online store.
