This time it was Tottenham Hotspur who stood in their way and, this time, the famous old trophy returned to Anfield after a 14-year absence. This was a season in which the Reds were firm and thrilling throughout, with a defence as solid as any in the club’s rich history and a strike-force that struck fear into teams throughout Europe. It was a season in which technical superiority and a collective will to win produced unforgettable results and, at times, defied belief.
